Maastricht is the culinary capital of The Netherlands. Not only the Burgundian restaurants will surprise you, but also restaurants with other cultural backgrounds. In the city of Maastricht, you will find many Italian, Spanish, Asian and so much more restaurants. If you’re a real foodie like us, but you don’t know where to start, no worries. We have selected our personal favorites for you! So, go outside and start your Maastricht food journey at these restaurants.

CAFÉ SJIEK – LIMBURGIAN
Because we are, of course, still in the city of Maastricht, we will start with a well-known restaurant among the locals: Café Sjiek! Home of the only restaurant in Maastricht that serves the famous Limburgian dish called zuurvlees in a traditional way, made with horse meat. Café Sjiek also has its own beer and wine called Sjiek Thoesbeer and Sjiek Huiswijn (Chardonnay), both made locally in Limburg.

LA BODEGA – SPANISH
If you are looking for Spanish tapas, sangria’s and cervezas, this is the place to be. La Bodega serves a wide variety of food and lots of the ingredients are transported directly from Spain. One of the advantages of the menu is that you can choose the size of your portions. Adjust the portion to the number of friends you bring, or simply order a big portion of whatever you love for yourself. They also have an extensive wine menu with wines from all over Spain.

TOSCANELLA APUANA – ITALIAN
When you set foot in Toscanella you will find yourself wandering in Italy. This place really has the authentic Italian setting which gets completed by the Italian staff that works there. They have a whole cabinet with different varieties of cheese and meat which you can choose for your focaccia or pizza. Don’t forget to order a delicious Italian espresso at the counter!

TOUT A FAIT – FRENCH
This Michelin star restaurant serves some of the finest French cuisines in Maastricht. The menu changes multiple times a year and is inspired by the ingredients that each season brings. The restaurant is located close to the Onze Lieve Vrouweplein in the heart of the historic city center.

MANDALIN – TURKISH / MIDDLE EASTERN
This restaurant is known for its welcoming Turkish hospitality. Mandarin serves a variety of Turkish Mezes, these are small Turkish bites served in platters. After the Mezes, you can choose typical Turkish mains and desserts like ördek (duck) and baklava. The host will tell you all about the origins of the ingredients and dishes. You will not only leave with a full stomach but also with more knowledge of the Turkish cuisine.

MEDITERRANEO – MEDITERRANEAN
For Ristorante Mediterraneo serving fresh food is key. The Tuscan owner makes sure that all of his dishes contain authentic Italian flavors and that his guests are treated with genuine Italian hospitality. This cozy establishment is only a short walk away.

SOFA – EUROPEAN
If you want to escape the crowded city center for an outside dinner then SOFA is the place to be. Just outside the city center, you will find this establishment where nature and city meet each other. The garden is a great place to have dinner. For the colder seasons, you can also dine inside in front of the cozy fireplace, or enjoy a drink at the bar.

UMAMI BY HAN – ASIAN
A combination of several Asian cuisines with a French twist can be found at Umami by Han. Besides a-la-carte, they serve two different kinds of menus. The social dining menu, the name says it all, is meant to share. For a culinary surprise, you can also choose the ‘Bib Gourmand’ menu!
